— On January 29th and February 26, Moraine Sportsmen will be holding the first ever .22 Long Rifle Challenge. These matches are designed to be equipment limited and are an effort to begin to establish outdoor rifle programs at our club. The match format is simple and straightforward and designed to utilize the club’s existing facilities. Registration will start at 9am and firing will begin at 10am. Registration will be $5 and if you choose to re-enter, subsequent rounds will be $4. It is a 50 round match, with 30 rounds being shot at 50 yards and 20 rounds shot at 25 yards.

Equipment- The match is designed to be shot with bolt action, semi-auto, lever action, or pump. Barrel may be a sporter or varmint barrel profile. Rifle must be capable of holding five rounds in a magazine or tube. Maximum scope power is 9X. You may have a higher power variable, but it must be dialed down to a maximum of 9X.

Course of fire- The first ten rounds will be shot at a 1″ target at 50 yards. The rifle can be supported by a front rest, sand bag or bipod. Buttstock must be shouldered. This is being shot on our pistol range, so there are no conventional rifle benches. The second 10 rounds will be shot at a 2″ target, using your support hand elbow on the bench. The third 10 rounds will be shot offhand at a 3″ target. These three rounds will be slow-fire. After completion of the 50 yard segment, the target stands will be moved to 25 yards. At 25 yards there will be two segments of timed fire. The first 10 rounds will be at a 1 1/2″ target, using your support hand elbow on the bench. There will be 2, five-round relays with 30 seconds per relay. There will be a short pause between the two to allow for reloading. The second 10 rounds will be offhand at a 2 1/2″ target, with the same firing sequence as the previous round.

Scoring- Scoring will be a simple 1 point for a hit and zero for a miss. In the event of the tie, there will be a shoot-off tie-breaker.
